Ulia Mount is perhaps the most unknown by the visitors and, however, its beauty is amazing. It is the ideal place to practice climbing in San Sebastian. This mount protects one of the city sides and, from its slopes since the ancient times, the Cantabrian Sea was surveyed, anticipating the whales arrival.
During this climb in San Sebastian we will use the Gokyo route, one of the best climbing routes in the Basque Country. The Gokyo route, 220m high, offers stunning views of the Gipuzkoan coast, you will climb over the sea. This route doesn’t require a particularly high level, although it is recommended that you have some basic climbing knowledge. If climbing is your passion, from San Sebastian you can also try to climb Santa Barbara vertical walls, in Hernani.
Gokyo bidea, Gokyo’s way in local language, is a beautiful affordable grade route on the edge of the Cantabrian Sea. It is carefully equipped with solid anchors. The rock is very good quality sandstone with excellent adhesion.
Description of the activity
To carry out this activity we head to Ulia Mount which is located between Zurriola beach and Pasajes port and between this town and Gros neighborhood.
All the time you will be accompanied by a high mountain guide who will supervise the activity and during 5 hours will be focused to guide you in your learning in order to improve your climbing skills.
Climbing is not like other sports in which you need a certain level first to enjoy after. Here you will improve with the instructor as much as you can depending on your ease of adaptation and as you develop your climbing skills.
If you already have some experience, when you get to the main spur, you’ll be able to continue up to a more difficult stretch enjoying the curious rock formation with spectacular views.
Our guide is going to be testing your performance so as the adventure becomes exciting and, at the same time, safe. But you can be sure that you will enjoy from the first day, the question is to find a path to begin as beautiful as suitable for your level.
